If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your very own Wild West town, I have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that there is an entire old West-themed town for sale right now.
The bad news? It’s all the way in New Zealand, and it’s not cheap.
Mellonsfolly Ranch: The New Zealand Old West Town
Yes, you read that correctly. There is a New Zealand town built as a tribute to the U.S. Wild West.
Dubbed Mellonsfolly Ranch, this property sits on more than 900 acres on New Zealand’s North Island. It was built in 2006 by owner John Bedogni.
The unique estate features three distinct homes. Currently, one serves as the main private residence, while the other two serve as rental houses that double as staff accommodation.
Behind those three houses, though, sits an entire frontier-esque town.
The town itself features 10 period themed buildings designed to replicate an 1860s frontier town in Wyoming.
Don’t let the facade fool you, though. The Old West Town currently operates as a boutique hotel with nightly rentals that start at $5,000. According to the listing’s website, it “has all the features of a luxury destination.”
The courthouse actually doubles as a cinema, with a movie screen positioned behind the bench. There’s a saloon — as in, a real, licensed bar disguised as an old-timey saloon.
You’ll also find a billiards lounge, a horse stable, and overnight accommodations for 22 guests at the hotel.
Visitors to the town get to take advantage of activities you expect from the Old West, like horse trail rides, poker, gun-slinging, and more. But if you buy the town, I guess you could probably do whatever you want!
Outside of the Tourist Attraction, the Property Also Includes Hunting and Honey
Did I mention it sits on over 900 beautiful acres? It’s hidden a valley amid unspoiled native bush. The current owners spend summers hunting, fishing, and swimming in the rivers that wind through valleys.
Winter ain’t so bad either — the listing states that they spend winters in the “nearby picturesque ski town of Okahune and the Mount Ruapehu ski fields.”
As if all of that wasn’t enough, Mellonsfolly Ranch also operates as a thriving Manuka honey business — and by “thriving,” I mean that the ranch’s 600 hives produced 15.5 tons of Manuka honey in 2019.
Manuka honey is apparently one of New Zealand’s most profitable exports, so I guess the purchase of this property also comes with a new line of income.
The listing agent says that the ranch has received interest from potential buyers in New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the U.S. But in case you were looking for your very own Old West town, it’s still available!
