The Giants wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., is one of the highest-paid football players in the world. In fact, his five-year, $95 million deal with the Giants, signed on Monday, makes him the highest-paid received in the NFL. Not just currently, but in the history of the league.
Yes, that’s a lot of freaking money, and it goes to show just how in-demand Beckham is. Another testament to the young player’s powerful appeal is the private investigator a team hired to watch him in the spring.
Yes, in a move that resembles a plotline from Ballers, an unnamed NFL team hired a PI to investigate the wide receiver. The PI, as it turns out, was hired after rumors that Beckham was engaging in illegal activity surfaced. A video of Beckham in Paris with a model and an unidentified white powder had many people wondering how the young man was spending his millions.
At the same time, the Giants were aware that their star wide receiver had caught the attention of both the 49’ers and the Rams. This was when an unnamed team (likely one of the two aforementioned) hired the PI. The gumshoe’s investigation seems to have turned up nothing of substance, illegal or otherwise.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Spotlight
As a superstar player and recognizable football icon, Beckham has no shortage of attention in the public eye. His winning smile and charisma make him a fantastic presence on and off the field. However, the dark side of that attention rears its head from time to time. Speaking on LeBron James’ show “The Shop,” Beckham described his situation as similar to that of a zoo animal.
“…I really feel like a zoo animal. Like that’s where life’s gone for me. […] Like I’m a puppet, you know what I mean? […] But, can you ever really detach from that?”
In light of the PI and constant public scrutiny, it makes sense that Beckham would feel a bit trapped by his own fame. Here’s hoping it doesn’t weigh too heavily on the superstar! Perhaps his massive checks from the Giants and his unparalleled abilities on the field ease the sting of fame for him!
