If you’ve ever dreamed of being a cat, PlayStation has the purr-fect new game for you.
But I’ll go ahead and warn you, it’s not all lazy naps and treats in the life of a cat — at least not according to BlueTwelve Studio.
New PlayStation Game Let’s You Play as a Cat in a Backpack
The trailer for Stray, a new PlayStation 5 game has been released, and it stars a mystery-solving cat who wears a mini-backpack.
The game is currently in development from BlueTwelve Studio, and it’s being published by Annapurna Interactive. Or, should we call them Anna-purrrrr-na?
“Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly,” reads the official website.
Look, “cat adventure game” is paw-sitively enough to pique my interest.
The site continues, “Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by nothing but unassuming droids and dangerous creatures.”
So, it’s a cat adventure game set in a city full of robots? Sign me up!
Sure, adventure games in neon-lit cities aren’t exactly new. But there’s something wildly interesting — and fresh — about playing as a cat.
“Exploring the strange world we are building feels really fresh when you’re sneaking under a car, or walking the rooftops with the inhabitants below unaware of your presence,” said Viv, Game Director over at BlueTwelve.
Stray Gives You a Unique Point of View
She pointed out that it is a “very unique point of view for an adventure game,” and she’s not wrong. When’s the last time you explored a robot city as a fluffy feline?
The game actually started out a few years back. Originally dubbed HK_Project, it was a futuristic take on the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong.
Unfortunately, the released Stray trailer only gives us a quick glimpse into the world of Stray, so it leaves plenty of questions. Where did all the humans go? Why are all the robots so sad? And where did this cat get a backpack, and how does he put it on?
I guess I’ll have to wait until 2021 when the game hits consoles to get my answers.
If you don’t think you’ll be purchasing the brand new PlayStation 5 any time soon, the game is also billed as coming to PlayStation 4 as well.
