Belhaven, a neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi, has a peculiar (and tasty) problem on its hands: an unknown person is leaving bowls of mashed potatoes all over the place.
No, you didn’t read that wrong. Belhaven residents keep finding random bowls of mashed potatoes left by an unknown source.

One of the Weirdest Things
A resident of the Belhaven neighborhood, Jordan Lewis told CBS, “This neighborhood does a lot of quirky things. We decorate road signs, we put Christmas trees in our potholes, so it’s not surprising at all….but it’s definitely one of the weirdest things I’ve seen since living in Jackson.”
I’d have to agree that it’s pretty weird. Who would leave the world’s most perfect food on porches, on top of cars, or in mailboxes? Are they trying to share?
Why is Someone Leaving Out Mashed Potatoes?
Lewis also added, “We don’t know if someone is just playing a prank, or if someone just had a lot of leftovers.”
There really is no clear intent as to why someone is taking the time to leave out all of these potatoes. However, there are some residents that worry that the mysterious mashed potato bandit might have a more wicked intent.
Another Belhaven resident, Sebastian Bjernegard, said, “Some people were thinking maybe the mashed potatoes were poisoned to kill animals.”
But Has Anyone Tested the Potatoes?
It’s probably not the best idea to eat random potatoes left all over town by a stranger. I mean, no one even knows how long they’ve been sitting out, or what’s even in them, right?
Sebastian Bjernegard noted that he almost stepped into a bowl of potatoes, but when asked if he tried any for himself, he said, “I didn’t taste it. I have a three-second rule, so I didn’t touch it. But some people were worried.”
It’s unclear if anyone has actually eaten any of the mysterious mashed potatoes. If they have, they haven’t spoken up. Or maybe they were poisoned?
Law Enforcement Has Not Been Called
Even though some residents are concerned about scandalous or evil motives, no one has felt the need to contact law enforcement. So if you’re an aspiring private investigator, now’s the time to head down to Jackson, Mississippi, and solve the mysterious mashed potato bandit case!
